About: Evie & her sister Ellie came to us as babies from a working farm that we receive many severely neglected and sick sheep from. The agricultural animal laws in Alberta are very bleak; agricultural animals are entitled to food, water, shelter, and not much else. Despite our attempts to report this working farm that we receive many sick and dying sheep from, the animal laws in Alberta deem them to be following procedures; culling or surrendering the sick and dying sheep. Evie arrived very tiny, sick and malnourished, as she was set to be culled. Many farmers are on the side of culling straight away, rather than seeing a vet, as culling is deemed more cost effective and efficient. Thankfully, a concerned citizen stepped in and did as much as they could to help facilitate rescue.

Upon arriving, Evie and her sister Ellie were taken in to the vet for an initial examination. Our vet suspects that Evie had a lung infection prior to coming into our care, so she was treated for any lingering infection with antibiotics. It was also confirmed that Evie has a heart arrhythmia. Many of the sheep we receive from this working farm have a plethora of birth defects such as heart arrhythmias due to poor interbreeding practices. Both girls were provided with preventative care such as treatment for any bacterial infections, were dewormed, and received their vaccines.
Since arriving a few weeks ago, Evie has gained almost 10 pounds! We are hopeful that with proper and consistent medical care that Evie will live a long and happy life. Quite fearful when she initially arrived, Evie has slowly become accustomed to the humans of FARRM and spends her days hanging out with the herd and snuggling her sister Ellie in the sunshine.
