About:   Sage was transferred into our care from a partner rescue. Sage is an older lady and has a medical condition known as Heaves. Heaves (recurrent airway obstruction, COPD, broken wind, emphysema) is a common allergic respiratory disease of equines characterized by a chronic cough and respiratory difficulty. Heaves in equines is similar to asthma in humans. Sage does not have frequent Heaves flare ups as she is managed quite well here, but when she does, she is treated with steroids and a special dust-free diet. When she originally came into our care she was shy, skittish, and preferred to be left alone by humans. She has since come such a long way! Sage is a sassy, free-spirited gal. She has a beautiful mane and walks with purpose.

Sage had a spurt where she appeared to be losing a little bit of weight, so she was temporarily placed out in the main yard to freely roam around the property without any diet restrictions. However, the yard was already occupied by one of our horses, Diego, who is an older outcast. After a brief kicking session from Sage, the two bonded immediately. Diego and Sage were now inseparable. The two ate leaves off trees together, rolled around in the grass together, and called out to one another if they weren't in each other's sight. Shortly after this newfound love affair, we welcomed another miniature pony named Jade. The three are now a bonded trio that do everything together.
