About: Jade was surrendered to FARRM by her owner who could no longer care for her. Jade was set to be euthanized if she did not find a home. When Jade arrived, she was very overweight and had foundered. Founder is the common name for laminitis, a condition that inflames the laminae (inner tissue) within the hoof. It can cause lameness in equines and is usually caused by a rich, unbalanced diet. It can be very painful and uncomfortable if it goes untreated. Thankfully, the founder is quite easily treated with some proper hoof care and a strict diet. Jade was so sore that she was unable to walk or stand for extended periods of time and spent most of her days laying down. Since coming into our care, Jade has made tremendous progress! She is far less sore, her founder has almost entirely cleared up, and she has lost a substantial amount of weight.
Jade is a bit of a shy gal around humans, but she has already made best buddies with our two other equine outcasts Sage and Diego. Jade is delicate, sassy, and beautiful. The three spend their days strolling around the yard, lounging in the sun, and enjoying each other's company.
