Hello!  I'm Thumper!

Pet Pleasures:  Track & Field day at school!

Pet Peeves:  When people wrongfully park in the reserved Handicapped spaces.

Arrived at FARRM:  2026

Sex:  Female

Age:  2025

About:  Thumper is a truly extraordinary little cat with an equally extraordinary story.

Her journey began when a supporter reached out to us about a kitten they had found on their rural property facing an overwhelming number of challenges. An elusive feral cat had given birth to a litter of kittens nearby, and despite efforts to find assistance, the little feral family was largely left to fend for themselves.

At some point during her early life, Thumper wandered into a neighboring yard and was attacked by a dog. Although she survived her injuries, she soon disappeared along with the rest of her family. Months later, she was discovered trapped in a plastic snow fence, her hind legs tangled tightly in the netting. The supporter immediately rushed her to the vet, hoping there was still a chance to help her.

The extent of Thumper's injuries was heartbreaking. Both of her hind legs and pelvis had been broken in many locations. One leg was twisted upward toward her body, while the other extended awkwardly to the side. Having been left without care after the attack, her legs fused awkwardly in positions that made movement very difficult. It was also apparent that she had lost all control of her bladder and bowels, leaving her permanently incontinent. Given the severity of her condition, euthanasia was presented as the only option.

But Thumper's story wasn't over.

Determined to find another path forward, her rescuers refused to give up on her and began searching for anyone willing to help. Rescue after rescue declined due to the complexity of her needs. Her caregivers were told over and over again that she would never be adoptable because of her incontinence. Even if her damaged leg could be amputated, they were told that her incontinence would make finding placement nearly impossible and everyone refused to help.

When FARRM was contacted, we saw something different. We saw a cat who had already overcome impossible odds and deserved the opportunity to keep fighting.

After consulting with our veterinary team, it was decided that amputating her most severely affected hind leg would be the best first step. Despite her injuries, she remained energetic, affectionate, and determined. She was climbing, running, jumping, and exploring the world with remarkable enthusiasm.
We're thrilled to share that Thumper's surgery was a success and her mobility has already greatly improved.

Her amputation went as smoothly as possible, and she is already settling into her new life, making friends and enjoying every opportunity to play. She has received her vaccinations, follow-up care is scheduled, and she will be spayed in the near future.

While Thumper will likely remain incontinent for the rest of her life, that doesn't slow her down. Once fully settled in we will make a decision which space at our sanctuary will allow her to continue to thrive in a safe and enriching environment.

Because of her specialized medical needs, ongoing veterinary care, surgery costs, and incontinence management, Thumper's care will be among the most extensive we provide. Multiple monthly Sponsor Heroes will always be needed to help support her medical care, daily needs, and enrichment as she continues her incredible journey.

Despite everything she has endured, Thumper remains one of the brightest lights we have ever had the privilege of meeting. She is joyful, curious, resilient, and endlessly charming. Her spirit is a reminder that even in the face of tremendous adversity, hope can prevail.

We are incredibly honoured to welcome Thumper into the FARRM family and cannot wait to see what her future holds
