FARRM is a registered charity as of June 10, 2025, and all monetary donations over $20 are eligible for a tax receipt for income tax purposes.

To make donating easier for everyone, we encourage supporters to give through FARRM’s CanadaHelps page. This secure Canadian platform lets you choose how and when you receive your tax receipt (after each donation, or as a single annual receipt). Choosing CanadaHelps will help FARRM significantly reduce administrative time and allow for more of our energy to go to where it matters most: our residents.

For any offline monetary donations made for resident or fund sponsorships, or for online fundraisers such as the annual Betty White Challenge or Giving Tuesday, FARRM will issue one year-end receipt that totals your eligible donations for the given year.

FAQs

What is the minimum donation amount for a tax receipt?

FARRM’s minimum donation for a tax receipt is $20.

Do I have to donate through CanadaHelps?

No! CanadaHelps automates the tax receipt process, but if you do not want to create an account with them or do not require a tax receipt immediately, you can continue to donate to FARRM via e-transfer or PayPal.

If I don’t donate through CanadaHelps, what information do you need to issue an offline tax receipt from FARRM?

We will need the following information:

  • Full name (as it should appear on the receipt)

  • Full mailing address (including post code)

  • Email used to donate (PayPal email, if applicable)

An official call-out will be communicated via email, as well as in our monthly newsletters and social media posts, near the end of each calendar year for this information.

When can I expect my tax receipt, if it is being issued from FARRM?

Tax receipts will be sent out during the first week of February. If you haven’t received yours by February 15, please reach out to us at farrmrescue@gmail.com (two r’s in farrm) with Tax Receipt in the subject line.

Please note that tax receipts will be sent from our farrmstore@gmail.com email. It is a good idea to add both farrmrescue@gmail.com and farrmstore@gmail.com to your safe senders list, as our emails are frequently filtered to junk/spam folders.

My FARRM-issued tax receipt amount doesn’t match what I donated.

No worries! Please email us at farrmrescue@gmail.com (two r’s in farrm) with Tax Receipt Discrepancy in the subject line and we’ll happily look into it.

Can I change the name on my FARRM-issued tax receipt?

FARRM can correct minor clerical errors (such as incorrect spelling or typos) but can only issue a receipt in the name of the true donor.

My address changed after I made a donation. Do I need a new tax receipt?

No, an outdated address will not affect the validity of the tax receipt, and CRA will accept the use of an old mailing address as long as you are clearly identifiable.

Which donations are eligible for a tax receipt?

In keeping with CRA guidelines, we are able to issue tax receipts for monetary donations.

What isn’t eligible for a tax receipt?

FARRM merchandise, silent auction purchases, and in-kind items or services aren’t eligible for tax receipts.
