About: At only a week old, and born premature the littlest of fighters came into our care weighing only a couple pounds. Bert had minor frostbite on his face and a little heart that was beating a million miles an hour. We have dealt with the farm where Bert came from before and are relieved that this time they heeded our advice and surrendered him into our care right away.
We started Bert on some pain management and antibiotics right away as his face was swollen from the cold and he had diarrhea. We got him in to see our vet partner over the next couple days. At this point in time our worst fear was confirmed. His heart has a hole in it. We were unable to confirm where the hole is located in his heart but there is only a very small chance it is something that will heal over on its own.
We are going to hold onto that hope and do everything in our power to give this little fighter the best possible life. He’s growing, he’s no longer uncomfortable. He has big healthy poops and an even bigger appetite. He’s ready to take on the world with our help and we are here until his outcome is decided. Maybe if we can all hope together his hole will close up and Bert can live a long life with our sheep herd at FARRM.
