About: â€‹ Eli and his big sister Eva came to us as babies from a working farm that we receive many severely neglected and sick sheep from. The agricultural animal laws in Alberta are very bleak; agricultural animals are entitled to food, water, shelter, and not much else. Despite our attempts to report this working farm that we receive many sick and dying sheep from, the animal laws in Alberta deem them to be following procedures; culling the sick and dying sheep.

Eli arrived very tiny, sick and malnourished, as he was set to be culled. Many farmers err on the side of culling straight away, rather than seeing a vet, as culling is deemed more cost effective and efficient. Thankfully, a concerned citizen stepped in and did as much as they could to help facilitate rescue. Like many of the sheep that arrive from this working farm, Eli and his sister had awful cases of Coccidiosis which many agricultural animals contract when they are babies in unhygienic environments. Cocci attacks the intestinal tract resulting in diarrhea, abdominal pain, severe illness, and even death. Eli and Eva both also had horrific cases of pneumonia and were no longer growing.

Eva unfortunately passed away and a necropsy revealed that she had been born with a two-inch hole in her heart, that eventually gave out. Eli struggled greatly with the loss of his beautiful big sister. Thankfully, he had already been integrated into the herd and had bonded with another baby who was taken in at a similar time named Ernie.

Eli is now a happy and healthy resident! He is a social, happy go-lucky boy who loves affection. He is sweet, intuitive, and gracious. Eli spends his days with his best friend in the world Ernie bugging their Uncle Eugene, running with the herd, and lounging in the sun with his family.
