About:  ​​​Boris’s owner reached out to FARRM for help with one of their purebred Kunekune pigs who was battling some sort of illness. When we heard his story and saw his photos, we knew we had to step in, no matter what it took.

​

When Boris arrived, he was shockingly emaciated. His spine jutted out several inches, his ribs protruded sharply, and a fully grown pig who should have weighed around 400 pounds tipped the scales at less than 100. Before coming to us, he had only received dewormer, so our first step was a thorough veterinary assessment.

​

Boris’s initial vet visit left us with more questions than answers. Ultrasounds were not possible due to his thin frame and thick hair, and bloodwork revealed some abnormal kidney values—but nothing definitive. He showed no apparent signs of cancer, and his fecal sample came back clear. For now, our plan is to provide him with love, closely monitor his food and water intake, and reassess over the coming weeks. Our dedicated veterinary team has provided a variety of preventative treatments to support his recovery, but at this point, time is the greatest factor in his healing.

Despite his rough start and the immense challenges ahead, Boris is a gentle, affectionate soul with the kindest eyes. He is charismatic, friendly, and outgoing. Even in his weakened state, he wags his tail, smiles, and gently takes treats from your hand. He trusts and accepts our care as if his world hasn’t just been turned upside down.

Boris will require an incredible amount of ongoing support, not only because of his nutritional needs but also due to the long medical journey ahead. We are wholeheartedly committed to doing everything possible to help this sweet, resilient boy thrive.
